The Delhi High Court bench of Justice Rekha Palli today adjourned hearing Toolkit case accused Disha Ravi’s writ petition seeking action against media houses including Times Now, India Today and News 18 for alleged violative reporting on the Toolkit case.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had refused to pass any interim restraint order against the news channels, however, in a balancing act, had directed all the parties, including the Delhi Police, the accused Disha Ravi, and the news channels to follow established laws.
The Delhi Police had been directed to strictly abide by its affidavit filed in the matter, and Office Memorandum of April 1, 2010, which deals with manner of conduct of press briefings in ongoing criminal cases and to conduct press briefings in accordance with the law.
The media had also been directed to ensure that telecasts are from verified and authectic sources and editorial teams have been directed to exercise editorial control to ensure that the broadcast does not hamper case investigation.
Disha Ravi, on the other hand, was directed earlier to ensure that she or people connected to her do not indulge in unnecessary/ scandalising messages to malign the authorities.
Ravi had moved Court alleging the publication of “one-sided defamatory, suggestive innuendos, and half-truths” about her in the Toolkit case.
