Delhi High Court directs AAP Govt to pay Rs.15.5 crores to DSLSA as compensation to rape victims within 10 days

Synopsis

The Single Judge Bench relied on a decision by the Division Bench of the High Court, and directed the Delhi government to pay Rs. 15.5 crore to the Delhi State Legal Service Authority (DSLSA) as rape victims' compensation within 10 days.

While hearing three bail petitions in a case involving a minor's sexual assault, Justice Jasmeet Singh of the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, directed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to pay Rs.15.5 crore to the Delhi State Legal Service Authority (DSLSA) as compensation for the rape victim, within 10 days.

During the hearing, Justice Singh was informed about an order issued on September 6, 2019, by a division bench of the High Court, wherein it ordered the Delhi government to release a portion of the victim compensation fund to DSLSA within 10 days of the order's issuance.

Court ordered, “On the same line of reasoning, it is directed that the Delhi Government shall release a sum of Rs. 15,50,00,000/- in the second installment to DSLSA within 10 days from today in order to meet some of the claims of rape victims. All the counsels representing the party are at liberty to take complete Court record in accordance with Delhi High Court Practice Directions.”

Earlier, on September 2, the court noted that the funds for disbursement were being exhausted at DSLSA.
