The BCD approached the High Court, reporting that their office basement flooded on the night between June 27 and June 28, during which Delhi experienced nearly 250mm of rainfall, causing damage to many files.
The Delhi High Court, recently, directed an inspection following the Delhi Bar Council’s claim that its office was swamped during recent rainfall. Senior Advocate Ramesh Gupta, representing the BCD, stated that their office in the Siri Fort Institutional area suffered flooding due to clogged drains, despite repeated complaints.
The BCD emphasized that the floodwaters, carrying garbage, entered the basement, threatening physical records and potentially damaging IT infrastructure. The BCD asserted that despite numerous requests, the drains near its office were not cleared.
The Bench of Justice Sanjeev Narula ordered a joint inspection by engineers of a rank not below that of Superintendent Engineering (SE) at the premises, with the BCD Honorary Secretary present during the inspection.
The bench instructed the civic authorities to examine the area and submit a report to the Court by the following week. The court also noted that such incidents undermine Delhi's aspirations of being a world-class city.
Consequently, the court emphasized the need for immediate action to address the issue of waterlogging.
