[Dengue outbreak] 'Only tall claims, we are not satisfied': Allahabad HC directs DM, CMO Prayagraj to appear in person

Synopsis

The high court is currently seized of a suo motu PIL on account of the alarming situation of the spread of dengue fever in Prayagraj. The court is dealing with the issue on points of precautions and steps to be taken to stop the spread.

The Allahabad High Court has expressed dissatisfaction with the steps taken by the local administration in Prayagraj to control the Dengue outbreak in the city. Court, on November 2, said that the ground reality is completely opposite to the steps mentioned by the authorities before the court. 

The bench of Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice JJ Munir took into account the submission made by Radha Kant Ojha, Senior Advocate and the President of the Bar that general feedback is that proper fogging is not being done throughout the city besides other preventive steps.

Taking serious note of the same, the division bench ordered the District Magistrate, the Municipal Commissioner and the Chief Medical Officer, Prayagraj to appear in person before the court on November 4, 2022. 

The Allahabad High Court took up the instant issue suo moto on account of the alarming situation of the spread of dengue fever in Prayagraj. On October 18, Manish Goel, Additional Advocate General, had submitted before the court that fogging was being done throughout the city by adopting different methods keeping in view the requirements of different areas and the space available.

He had also stated that residents of the city were otherwise also being apprised of various factors, which have to be taken care of, to avoid the spread of dengue fever.

However, on Wednesday, November 2, court noted that only tall claims are being made by the city administration and no countermeasures are visible anywhere.
