Read Time: 02 minutes

Synopsis

The Bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Manoj Jain inquired about Kejriwal’s absence following the issuance of the summons. Kejriwal's counsel asserted that he responded to all the summons and was willing to appear virtually at any time

The Delhi High Court listed Arvind Kejriwal’s writ petition challenging the summons issued by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on March 22, 2024.

Kejriwal represented by Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi contended that the summons were illegal and politically motivated. Senior Advocate Singhvi also requested pre-arrest bail for Kejriwal, contending that political parties do not fall under the purview of the PMLA Act, and urged the court to summon a response from the ED.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appearing for ED was directed by the court to file their response to the petition. ASG SV Raju, representing the ED, challenged the validity of the petition, confirming that the agency would respond. ASG Raju highlighted that Kejriwal has not appeared before the ED since the initial summons in November 2023.

ASG Raju informed the court that 15 individuals have been arrested, including the latest arrest of K. Kavita. A total of 700 summons have been issued, with 10 to 12 individuals under suspicion, he submitted.
