Synopsis

The Fauxy, a satire website has sent a legal notice to a fact-checking website, Boom Live, Outcue Media Private Limited, and its journalist Mohammed Kudrati against an alleged false and malicious article allegedly published to defame and malign the image of the Fauxy.

The notice sent through Advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha states that Boom Live labeled a satire article published by the Fauxy as fake news.

It reads that recently when India became the fifth largest economy in the world beating the United Kingdom, the global financial experts admitted that India remained like an island keeping itself aloof from recession.

In view of the above, Fauxy wrote a satirical piece taking a dig at former RBI chairman Raghuram Rajan, who on multiple occasions anticipated and predicted a recession for India.

"In order to avoid confusion, my client has explicitly written everywhere on its website and in the above-mentioned article that it’s a satire website and readers are advised not to get confused", the notice states.

It asserts, "The false attribution by you Noticees (Boom Live) has shown my client(Fauxy) in a bad light and portray it as an organization which propagates misinformation which not only caused harm to its reputation but also affected the viewership of Fauxy."

Furthermore, the notice states that Fauxy is a dedicated platform of satire-based content and the popularity of Fauxy in its arena is such that it is being covered by popular media houses like The Print, Financial Express, Hindustan Times, India Today, etc.

The notice seeks an unconditional apology from Boom Live and compensation for multiple inconveniences, losses inflicted to the reputation and honor of the Fauxy due to the report published by Boom Live.
