Synopsis

Former BJP MP Pradeep Chaudhary and former MLA Mahipal Majra are accused of violating the model code of conduct during the 2007 assembly elections

In a significant development, former BJP MP from Kairana, Pradeep Chaudhary, and former MLA from Nakur, Mahipal Majra, did not appear in a Saharanpur court on Thursday for a case related to the violation of the model code of conduct.

The case, which dates back to the 2007 assembly elections, is being heard before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Room No. III/Special Judge MP MLA Court Priyanka Verma.

The absence of the two public representatives led to a heated debate between the government advocate and the lawyers representing Chaudhary and Majra. Special Public Prosecutor Gulab Singh is advocating on behalf of the government in this matter.

On Thursday, Chaudhary and Majra, through their lawyers, submitted an application to the court stating that they were out of the district and, therefore, unable to attend the hearing.

The court had initially scheduled the hearing for Thursday, but due to the absence of the accused, the arguments from both sides had to be presented in their stead. The lawyers for the public representatives contended that their clients' absence was justified, while the special public prosecutor emphasized the importance of their presence in court.

Given the circumstances, the court has rescheduled the hearing for Friday i.e. today, allowing both parties to present their arguments in full.

The case against Chaudhary and Majra is rooted in allegations from the 2007 assembly elections, where they were accused of violating the model code of conduct. Despite securing bail, their non-appearance in court could delay the outcome of the proceedings.
