Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal Inaugurates ‘Mitti Cafe’ to Promote Inclusivity

Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal on Monday, November 25, 2024, inaugurated ‘Mitti Cafe’ on the High Court premises. The unique initiative, operated entirely by individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities. At the inauguration, Chief Justice Agarwal highlighted the High Court's institutional commitment to inclusivity and applauded the staff’s excellent performance during the cafe's initial stages.

Mitti Cafe is a flagship initiative of a non-profit organization dedicated to providing employment and livelihood opportunities for people with special needs. Focused on promoting economic independence and dignity, the organization supports adults with physical, intellectual, and psychiatric disabilities, as well as individuals from other vulnerable communities. It also works to raise awareness about inclusion and disability rights.

The event saw attendance from all Judges of the High Court, the Advocate General, lawyers, and court officers, who commended the cafe staff for their dedication and enthusiasm as they embarked on this professional journey.

The project has received financial backing through corporate social responsibility initiatives from the State Bank of India and the Dalmia Charitable Trust, along with assistance from the Kapila and Nirmal Hingorani Foundation and FICCI FLO.

This initiative, previously launched at the Supreme Court premises on November 10, 2023, by then Chief Justice of India Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud, marks a significant milestone in promoting accessibility and empowerment within judicial institutions.
