Seven applications had been filed before the court of Varanasi District Judge seeking transfer of seven suits pertaining to the Gyanvapi dispute pending in various courts to his court.

A local court in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh today allowed the pleas seeking transfer of seven suits pertaining to the Gyanvapi dispute pending in various courts to the court of the district judge.

The court of District Judge Ajaya Krishna Vishvesha ordered all the matters to be transferred to his court. The judge held that after such transfer, it will be decided as to whether it would be appropriate to club all the seven suits together or not.

Seven applications had been moved before the court of district judge alleging that all the said suits are of similar nature, hence they should be tried together. Among the applicants were plaintiffs 2 to 5 (Laxmi Devi, Sita Sahu, Manju Vyas, and Rekha Pathak) in original suit no. 18/2022.

Among the seven cases, six are pending before the court of civil judge (senior division) and one is pending before the fast-track court of the civil judge (senior division).

It is to be noted that a plea has also been filed before the Supreme Court to consolidate all suits pertaining to the Gyanvapi-Kashi Vishwanath temple dispute.

The Apex Court on March 28, 2023, had agreed to hear the plea on April 21, 2023.

Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain had mentioned the matter before the top court. Jain had then told the court that the Varanasi judge had deferred verdict on the issue for the fourth time.

In another important update, the Supreme Court today said that it will pass official orders on whether "Wuzu", an Islamic Practice can be performed at the disputed Gyanvapi site, where a mosque stands, on Friday, i.e. April 21, 2023.

The Supreme Court last year, had extended indefinitely, the interim protection for the area where a Shivling was found at the disputed site of Gyanvapi at Varanasi.
