JJ Act: Delhi JJB Orders Juvenile Tried As Adult in Second Murder Case; Was on Bail In First

The order, passed on July 4, came after the Board accepted an application filed by the investigating officer, who urged that the juvenile be subjected to an adult trial considering the gravity of the offence and the material collected during the investigation.

The case relates to the murder of a 22-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed to death at Shakarpur Market on December 7, 2025. The victim was rushed to hospital after the attack but later succumbed to his injuries. Police registered an FIR at Shakarpur Police Station and apprehended the juvenile during the investigation.

Second Murder Allegedly committed while on Bail

According to the investigation, the juvenile was already facing trial in another murder case registered in September 2024, in which he was accused of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old boy after the latter allegedly refused to treat him following the purchase of a new mobile phone.

The juvenile, who was 15 years old at the time of that offence, had been granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board.

Police alleged that while on bail, he committed the second murder on December 7, 2025.

Investigators said the 22-year-old victim had intervened to mediate a dispute after the juvenile allegedly assaulted another youth near Akshardham Metro Station a day earlier. During the confrontation at Shakarpur Market, the victim was allegedly stabbed.

Before succumbing to his injuries, the victim reportedly identified the juvenile as his attacker. The accused surrendered before the Juvenile Justice Board on December 8, 2025.

Evidence Collected

During the investigation, police collected CCTV footage, call detail records, WhatsApp chats, voice recordings and Google Maps location data to reconstruct the sequence of events. Officers also recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack along with the clothes purportedly worn by the juvenile during the incident.

Relying on this material, the investigating officer moved the Juvenile Justice Board seeking that the accused be tried as an adult under the Juvenile Justice Act.

After assessing the nature of the allegations, the evidence placed before it and the statutory requirements governing preliminary assessment, the Board allowed the application.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar confirmed that the juvenile would now face trial as an adult.

The order is the second such direction passed by a Juvenile Justice Board in Delhi in recent months. In April this year, another 16-year-old accused of murdering a man during a robbery in southwest Delhi's Jaffarpur Kalan was also directed to face trial as an adult. Police had alleged that the juvenile and his associates killed the victim and later set the body on fire to destroy evidence.
