The Central Government has notified the appointment of Additional Judge of Calcutta High Court, Justice Aniruddha Roy, as a Permanent Judge. Justice Roy was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium via a meeting held on December 14.

The Central Government had notified his appointment as an Additional Judge in May 2020 for a period of two years.

Recently a division bench of Aniruddha Roy and Sabyasachi Bhattacharya had put a blanket ban on firecrackers during Diwali 2020. This decision made headlines, which was later overturned by the Supreme Court.
