Kanhaiya Lal Beheading| Udaipur court sends accused to 14 days judicial custody

Udaipur district session court on Thursday sent Ghaus Mohammad and Riyaz Akhtar, the accused in the gruesome beheading of Kanhaiya Lal, to judicial custody till July 13.

The duo beheaded Kanhaiya Lal, for allegedly for expressing support for Nupur Sharma, the former BJP leader, in a social media post. Said incident took place in broad daylight on June 28, 2022 and was recorded on video.

According to India Today, the two accused were brought to court in a police van with their faces covered.

It has also been reported that they were produced in the court while several advocates started shouting slogans on the premises.

The lawyers gathered on the court premises in large numbers in the evening and started shouting slogans demanding death penalty for the two accused.

Though a case was registered by the State Police in the Dhanmandi district of Udaipur, Rajasthan on June 29, 2022, the NIA has also re-registered a case upon being directed to take over the investigation.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had, in its tweet, said that the involvement of any organisation and international links will be investigated by the NIA.
