The Karnataka High Court has recently raised concern over the alleged failure of the State Government in providing land for the burial of dead bodies. The bench asked the government if the bodies needs to be dumped on roads.

A bench of Justice B Veerappa said, "It is unfortunate the court has to do the job of the government."

The bench told the Government that in case the burial grounds are not provided within 15 days in all villages, the Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department will be put behind the bars.

Earlier, the High Court had asked the government to provide burial grounds in all states within 6 weeks, which was not complied with as per the plea filed by Mohammed Iqbal.

In this regard the petitioner had moved a contempt petition, however, the counsel appearing for the government sought more time to comply with the order and said that a status report will be filed.

To which, the bench said that the case is not in relation to a missing person wherein a status report is needed to be filed.

The High Court further opined that the people vote for the good deeds and the Government should provide burial grounds as a vote-gathering measure.
