Kerala High Court declares loud sound systems installed in vehicles illegal

The Kerala High Court has held that the use of loudspeakers installed in a vehicle is illegal. The High Court said that the use of multiple amplifiers, speakers, and sub-woofers cannot be allowed.

A bench of Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice PG Ajithkumar opined that the use of speakers with thousands of watts of Peak Music Power Output will lead to impaired hearing of the driver and may also lead to distraction for other people on the road.

In addition to this, it was further noted that the vehicles with several horns and horns with alarming noise violate the guidelines used for road safety, noise control, and air pollution.

The order has been passed in a suo-moto matter pertaining to the issue of accidents on the road.

The Court has directed the authorities to circulate the WhatsApp numbers of every enforcement officer in the district so that the people can reach out to the officers in case of any violation.

The bench has further asked the authorities to ensure strict compliance with the directions.

Recently, in related news, the Allahabad High court appreciated the Uttar Pradesh Government’s efforts in controlling noise pollution through modified silencers, hooters, and pressure horns State-wide.

The High Court had taken suo moto cognizance of noise pollution generated through modified silencers specifically Bullet Bikes and the other two-wheelers.

Court had then noted that “the problem of noise pollution is like the hydra where anyone who attempted to behead the Hydra found that as soon as one head was cut off, two more heads would emerge from the fresh wound, so much so that the destruction of the Hydra became one of the 12 Labours of Hercules.”
