Lipika Mitra Files Defamation Case Against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Lipika Mitra, spouse of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti, has initiated criminal defamation proceedings against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The complaint alleges that defamatory and derogatory statements were made against Mitra and circulated through both print and electronic media.
On May 19, the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Dalal took cognizance of the complaint and issued notice to Nirmala Sitharaman, directing her to appear on June 12. The magistrate observed that the proposed accused must be given an opportunity to be heard.
The matter has been formally registered as a fresh defamation case following its assignment to the court.
