Court underscored that the respondent actors' reactions were normal given the offensive nature of Khan's comments against women

The Madras High Court today dismissed Actor Mansoor Ali Khan's plea for permission to file a defamation suit against fellow actors Trisha Krishnan, Khushboo Sundar, and Chiranjeevi for their social media responses to Khan's remarks about co-actor Trisha.

The bench of Justice N Satish Kumar, deeming the actor's court approach as a publicity stunt, imposed a Rs. 1 Lakh cost, directing the amount to be paid to Adyar Cancer Institute.

Court underscored that the respondent actors' reactions were normal given the offensive nature of Khan's comments against women, asserting that such circumstances did not warrant a defamation suit.

Khan had made disrespectful remarks about Trisha during a press conference following the success of the Tamil film "Leo." Trisha, Khushboo, and Chiranjeevi expressed their displeasure on social media, condemning the remarks.

In response, Khan approached the Madras High Court, alleging that the actors had made defamatory statements without proper verification. He claimed to have commented on the negative characters he portrayed, not making personal remarks, and sought Rs. 1 crore in damages from each actor.

The Chennai police has already filed a case against Khan under IPC sections 354A and 509. Khan's anticipatory bail petition was rejected for lacking case details. He publicly apologized for his statements, and Trisha accepted the apology.
