[Mominpur Communal Violence] NIA files chargesheet against 14 accused men before Special Court in Calcutta

Synopsis

The case involves a confrontation between members of two communities who engaged in brick-batting, stone-pelting, and bomb-throwing.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on January 7, 2023, filed chargesheet against fourteen accused persons before the NIA Special Court, Calcutta in connection with the Mominpur Communal Violence.

The case pertains to a clash between members of two communities who engaged in brick-batting, stone-pelting, and bomb-throwing. The accused persons also discouraged Police Officers from carrying out their official duties by physically assaulting them, damaging vehicles parked nearby, and attacking Police Officers in the jurisdiction of Ekbalpore, Kolkata, Police Station.

The 14 chargesheeted accused persons are:

  3. Md. Sahabuddin Siddique
  4. Md. Idul Siddique
  5. Md. Ziauddin
  6. Badrul Hossain @ Dabbu
  7. Ohab Hossain @ Vicky
  8. Gholam Md Izhar @ Izhar
  9. Mustafa Hussain @ Sharafat @ Sharafat Ali
  10. Zakir Hossain
  11. Md. Faiyaz
  12. Sunny
  13. Raju @ Raju Ahmed @ Misbahuddin Ahmed
  14. Imamul Haque @ Inam

All the 14 accused persons have been chargesheeted under Sections 120B, 147, 149, 152, 332, 353, and 436 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3, 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.

“Investigations revealed that accused, Md. Fakruddin Siddique @ Fakru, Md Salauddin Siddique, Md Sahabuddin Siddique, Md Idul Siddique, Md. Ziauddin, Badrul Hossain @ Dabbu, Ohab Hossain @ Vicky, Gholam Md Izhar @ Izhar, Mustafa Hussain @ Sharafat @ Sharafat Ali, Zakir Hossain, Md Faiyaz, Sunny, Raju @ Raju Ahmed @ Misbahuddin Ahmed and Imamul Haque @ Inam hatched a criminal conspiracy, gathered into an unlawful assembly with the intention to attack dwelling houses/shops of people of a particular community at Gali No. 8, Bhukailash Road, Kolkata (PO) by using crude bombs, petrol bombs, wooden sticks, brickbats, and stones. Further, the accused persons, as part of an unlawful mob, prevented the Police force from entering Gali No. 8, Bhukailash Road to control the riots and even assaulted Police personnel of Kolkata Police”, the NIA press release read.

As per the NIA press release, the case was initially registered on October 10, 2022, at Ekbalpur, Kolkata Police Station, West Bengal, and later re-registered by the NIA on October 18, 2022.
