News 18: Police tells Delhi High Court: 98 cases registered under UAPA since 2005 out of which 40 decided

The Delhi High Court has recently been informed that the Delhi Police has registered 98 cases under UAPA since 2005.

The Delhi Police informed the Delhi High Court that they have registered 98 cases under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act since 2005 out of which 40 cases have been decided.

The report has been submitted before a bench of Justice Mukta Gupta and Justice Anish Dayal in a matter wherein the court is examining the aspect of extending the detention tenure.

The status report has been filed by the Delhi Police in a pending matter wherein the High Court had asked the Police to submit details regarding the number of cases registered under UAPA and in how many of them the chargesheet has been filed within the stipulated 90 days time limit.

The affidavit stated that in 40 cases the chargesheet has been filed within the stipulated 90 days time limit.

Additionally, the bench was also informed that 15 cases have been transferred to the National Investigation Agency, 12 are pending investigation and in total 29 are pending trial.

The affidavit has been submitted in a batch of petitions challenging the extension of detention period allowed.
