NIA files charge sheet against three accused in Khejuri Bomb Blast case

Synopsis

The case pertains to an explosion in the house of Kankan Karan, one of the accused persons, in the village Paschim Bhanganmari, Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal in January 2022.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday i.e. July 22, 2022, filed charge sheet before the NIA Special Court, Kolkata against three accused persons in connection to their involvement in the Khejuri bomb blast case.

The case pertains to an explosion in the house of the accused Kankan Karan in the village Paschim Bhanganmari, Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal in January 2022.

Due to the explosion, the accused Kankan Karan and Anup Das had got severe injuries and subsequently, Anup Das succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations revealed that Samar Shankar Mondal had entered into a criminal conspiracy with other co-accused Ratan Pramanik, Kankan Karan, and deceased accused Anup Das to prepare explosives, unlawful possession of crude bombs and explosive substances with nefarious designs.

The four accused have been charged under:

  1. Samar Shankar Mondal under Section 120B, 109 & 201 of IPC and Section 4 & 6 of Explosive Substances Act
  2. Ratan Pramanik under Section 120B & 109 of IPC and Section 4,5 & 6 of Explosive Substances Act
  3. Kankan Karan under Section 120B & 109 of IPC and Section 4, 5 & 6 of Explosive Substances Act
  4. Anup Das (deceased), charges abated due to death

“The Charge sheet was filed against the aforementioned four accused and Anup Das's charges have been dropped as a result of his death,” the NIA press release stated.

As per the NIA press release, the case was initially registered on January 4, 2022, at the Khejuri police station and later re-registered by the NIA on January 25, 2022.
