NIA files chargesheet before Special Court against 23 accused persons in 2021 Chhattisgarh CPI (M) Attack case

On April 3, 2021, 350-400 armed members of the CPI (Maoist) attacked police/security force personnel near Tekalgudiyam village under Tarrem Police Station in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh.
The National Investigation Agency last week filed charge sheet against 23 accused persons before the NIA Special Court, Jagdalpur in the case pertaining to an attack on the police party/security force personnel by members of the CPI (Maoist) on April 3, 2021.
The 23 accused persons include CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao, his predecessor Mupalla Laxaman Rao and several other members.
All the 23 chargesheeted accused are:

All the accused have been chargesheeted under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 302(Murder), 307(Attempt to Murder), 396 (Dacoity with murder), 149 (unlawful assembly), 121 (waging war), and 121A (conspiracy to wage war) of Indian Penal Code, Sections- 25(1A) and 27 of Indian Arms Act, 1959, Section- 3 (causing explosion likely to endanger life or property), 4 (attempt to cause an explosion, or for making or keeping explosives) and 6 (Punishment of abettors) of Explosive Substances Act 1908 and Sections- 16, 18, 18A, 20, 38 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
On April 3, 2021, 350-400 armed members of the CPI (Maoist) attacked police/security force personnel near Tekalgudiyam village under Tarrem Police Station in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, killing 22 police officers, injuring more than 35 others, and looting arms and ammunition.
According to the investigations, the accused, who are members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), conspired to commit terrorist acts, and the CPI (Maoist) armed cadres attacked the combined security forces CRPF, CoBRA, DRG, and state police with heavy fire from barrel grenade launchers (BGL) and automatic weapons. They also kidnapped a CoBRA Jawan, Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, and stole his weapon.
“Investigations also revealed that the ambush and attack on the police party and security personnel were carried out as part of CPI (M)'s TCOC (Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign)”, the federal agency’s press release stated.
The agency’s press release stated that NIA investigations have also revealed the involvement of senior leaders of the CPI (M) in the attack.
As per the NIA press release, the case was initially registered by the Tarrem Police Station of Bijapur district and later re-registered by the NIA on June 5, 2022.
