NIA files supplementary chargesheet against man allegedly involved in CPI (M) activities in Assam

The NIA has filed a supplementary chargesheet against Samrat Chakraborty alias Nirman alias Nilkamal Sikdar, a West Bengal resident for Maoist activity in Assam.
In a case involving Maoist activity in the state of Assam, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a supplementary chargesheet before the NIA Special Court, Assam, Guwahati against an accused namely, Samrat Chakraborty@ Nirman@ Nirmal@ Nilkamal Sikdar@ Argha@ Amit.
The accused Samrat Chakraborty@ Nirman@ Nirmal@ Nilkamal Sikdar@ Argha@ Amit has been charged under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC, and Sections 18 (Punishment for conspiracy, etc), 20 (Punishment for being a member of terrorist gang or organization)and 38 (Offence relating to membership of a terrorist organization) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The investigations have revealed that the accused Samrat Chakraborty was an active member of CPI (Maoist), a banned terrorist organization.
“He was part of the conspiracy hatched by the CPI (Maoist) leadership to expand its organizational set-up and operational base in Assam. Samrat stayed at numerous hideouts in the Cachar district of Assam to strengthen and expand the CPI(Maoist) organization, and he served as a conduit between the leadership of the CPI(Maoist) organization in other regions”, the NIA press release stated.
As per the NIA press release, the case was initially registered at the Crime Branch Police station, Guwahati, Assam, and later re-registered by the NIA on March 16, 2022. Earlier, the NIA chargesheeted six accused persons on September 9, 2022.
