No coercive action against Anubrata Mondal: Calcutta High Court

Read Time: 02 minutes

The Calcutta High Court bench of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) not to take any coercive action against Trinamool Congress (TMC) President in Birbhum District, Anubrata Mondal in a post poll violence case.

Mondal had approached the Court yesterday seeking protection from any coercive action taken against him by CBI.

Mondal was asked by the CBI to appear before it at the NIT camp office in Durgapur in neighbouring Paschim Bardhaman district at 11 am on Thursday in connection with a murder case at Ilambazar in Birbhum which is alleged to have connection with post-poll violence in West Bengal.

On Thursday, the Court observed that Mondal has not been named in the FIR. Further, the Court observed that the notice issued to Mondal is infructuous since he was summoned today, hence CBI ought to issue fresh notice.

Details to be added with issuance of order.
