The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 11, 2022, filed chargesheet against three alleged Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) associates in the Omalur Police Station Arms Case.

The NIA press release stated that on May 19, two country-made pistols, ammunition, and gunpowder were recovered during a vehicle check from two accused near Puliyampatti division in the Omalur police station area of Salem district in Tamil Nadu. The duo was inspired by the LTTE, a proscribed terrorist organization, and wished to establish an organization similar to the LTTE to wage an armed struggle against the government.

The three accused chargesheeted persons are:

  1. Naveen@ Chakaravarthy M
  2. Sanjay Prakash J
  3. A Kabilar@ Kabilan

“Investigations have established that the three accused had conspired and associated themselves with the LTTE, a proscribed outfit, and created an organization called ‘World Tamil Justice Court’ (WTJC). They had made plans to attack people who work in quarries, crushers, and TASMAC liquor shops by using illegal firearms, lethal weapons, and explosive substances and also causing destruction to property,” the investigating agency stated.

The investigations also revealed that the accused had chosen to strike on May 18, which marks the Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day, observed by Sri Lankan Tamil people and supporters of LTTE to pay homage to those who died in the Sri Lankan civil war.

Furthermore, the agency’s press release stated that the accused believed that the terrorist acts would spread terror among the people and send a strong message to the general public and government that an LTTE-type organization has been successfully revived and resurrected in Tamil Nadu.

As per NIA, the case was first registered at Omalur Police Station on May 19 and was later re-registered by the agency.
