The Pune Police has told the Bombay High Court that permission has been granted to AIMM to hold a rally to celebrate Tipu Sultan Jayanti.

A division bench of the high court comprising Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice SG Dige was hearing a petition filed by Pune President of All India-Majlis-e-Ittehabul Muslimeen who wanted to celebrate the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan on November 26 (Constitution Day) along with celebration of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad.

The bench said that all the terms and conditions to hold the rally shall be adhered to by AIMM.

Previously, the bench had questioned whether there was a ban on holding rallies and celebrating Tipu Sultan Jayanti.

The AIMM President approached the high court seeking permission after the Pune rural police refused to grant permission for the celebration.

Pune Rural Superintendent told the bench last year some incidents led to the registration of offences.

The bench said that the Pune Police can decide the route for the procession. It added that if there was a law and order situation then the police could register an offence.

The high court further said that the law and order situation cannot be a ground for denying permission for the procession.
