Justice Yashwant Varma noted that the JFI could not produce any evidence regarding the allegations put forth, and stayed the suspension order passed by the JFI on July 2, 2022, till the next date of hearing.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday stayed the suspension order passed by the Judo Federation of India (JFI) against Judo player Jasleen Singh Saini selected for Common Wealth Games (CWG) 2022.

The court was hearing a petition moved by Judo Player Jasleen Singh Saini against JFI's suspension order, wherein he was alleged to have committed sexual assault.

Justice Yashwant Varma noted that the JFI could not produce any evidence regarding the allegations put forth, and stayed the suspension order passed by the JFI on July 2, 2022, till the next date of hearing.

However, Court added that Saini shall submit an undertaking of good behavior and conduct before the Administrator of the Judo Federation as well as the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

Advocate Akshay Ringe, appearing for Saini argued that once he has been duly selected and included in the team by the IOA, the Judo Federation could not suspend him.

Ringe also added that allegations of sexual assault were laid against another athlete and not Saini.

On the other hand, counsel for the IOA contended that Saini is country's only medal prospect in the 66kg weight category in the Judo event, which is scheduled to be held as part of the Commonwealth Games.

Court has listed the matter on November 24, 2022 for further hearing.

Case Title: Jasleen Singh Saini v. Judo Federation of India through Administrator & Ors.
