Synopsis

The Bombay High Court has extended the interim stay imposed on the order passed by the Special CBI Court, which allowed Indrani Mukherjea to travel to Europe. Indrani Mukherjea is accused of killing her own daughter, Sheena Bora in 2012.

A single judge bench of Justice Shyam Chandak adjourned the appeal filed by CBI by two weeks and extended the interim stay on the order of Special CBI Court.

Advocate Shriram Shirsat, appearing for the CBI, contended that Indrani was the prime accused in the case and that the trial was ongoing.

Advocate Ranjeet Sangle, appearing for Indrani, submitted that she could not travel outside since she did not have her passport.

On July 19, the Special CBI Court allowed Indrani to travel to Europe for 10 days on the condition that she visit the Indian Embassy at least once and obtain an attendance certificate. The CBI filed an appeal before the high court challenging the Special CBI Court's order.

Indrani Mukerjea was arrested in 2015 on allegations of murdering her daughter, Sheena Bora, with the assistance of her former husband Sanjeev Khanna, present husband Peter Mukerjea, and driver Shyamvar Rai.

In 2021, the high court rejected Indrani’s bail plea, but she was granted bail by the Supreme Court in 2022.
