[Shraddha Murder Case] Delhi Court frames charges of Murder & disappearance of evidence against Aftab Amin Poonawala

Synopsis

Aaftab Amin Poonawala is accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and chopping her body into pieces. 

A Delhi Court on Tuesday ‘framed charges’ of murder and disappearance of evidence against Aftab Amin Poonawala who is accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and chopping her body into pieces.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Manisha Khurana Kakkar of Saket Court framed charges against Poonawala under Section 302 (Murder) and Section 201 (Disappearance of Evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.

Aftab Poonawala pleaded not guilty to the charges and claimed to face trial. 

The matter has been set for trial and has been listed for the recording of prosecution evidence on June 1, 2023.

Notably, In April the court reserved order on ‘framing charges’ against Poonawala.

Background:

Aftab Poonawala was arrested on November 12, after Shraddha’s father filed a complaint against him. Shraddha and Aftab were living as live-in partners in Mehrauli, Delhi. According to sources, Aftab had killed Shraddha six months before his arrest. It is alleged that Aftab chopped Shraddha’s body into 35 parts and threw it in different places in Delhi.
