[Sunjwan Terrorist Attack Case] NIA files charge sheet against 12 accused men in Jammu

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on October 19, 2022, filed a charge sheet before the NIA Special Court, Jammu against twelve persons in a case relating to the conspiracy hatched among Kashmir-based terrorist operatives, Pakistan-based leadership/handlers, and terrorists of banned terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), wherein two JeM terrorists were infiltrated into India through a tunnel.

This tunnel was excavated on the International Border in the area falling under BOP Chack Faqira in the Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir to disrupt Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to the Jammu region. The aforementioned terrorist’s movements were intercepted by security forces, and both terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the area of Sunjwan, Jammu.

The name of the twelve persons charge-sheeted are:

6. Slain terrorist No.1 of JeM r/o Pakistan (Charge stands abated)
7. Slain terrorist No.2 of JeM r/o Pakistan. (Charge stands abated)
8. Masood Azhar Alvi @ Masood Azhar @ Maulana (Pakistan National)
9. Rouf Asgar Alvi @ Abdul Rouf Asgar S/o Allah Bakash Sabir (Pakistan National)
10. Mohammad Mussdaiq @ Doctor @ Abdul Manan @ Wahid Khan (Pakistan National)
11. Shahid Latif @ Chotta Shahid @ Noor Al-Din (Pakistan National)
12. Masood Ilyas Kashmiri @ Abu Mohammad from Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK)

The Investigations have revealed that the accused Shafeeq Ahmad Sheikh, Bilal Ahmad Wagay, Mohd Ishaq Chopan, Abid Mushtaq Mir, and Asif Ahmad Sheikh entered into a criminal conspiracy with two freshly infiltrated Pakistani JeM terrorists and JeM leadership, namely Moulana Masood Azhar Alvi @ Massod Azhar, Rouf Asgar Alvi @ Abdul Rouf Asgar and launching commanders namely Mohammed Mussadiq @ Doctor, Shahid Latif @ Noor Al-Din, Masood Ilyas Kashmiri @ Abu Mohammed in the furtherance of which they received, transported and provided logistic support to newly infiltrated JeM terrorists who entered into Indian territory to execute a suicidal attack on the security forces and other vital installations in the Jammu region to disrupt the scheduled visit of Prime Minister of India on April 24, 2022.

As per the NIA press release, a First Information Report (FIR) was initially registered on April 22, 2022, at Bahu Fort Police Station, Jammu, and later re-registered by the NIA on April 26, 2022.
