Sengar received a life imprisonment sentence for the sexual assault of a minor girl in Unnao District, Uttar Pradesh, in 2017. Additionally, he was convicted and sentenced to a 10-year prison term in connection with the custodial death of the father of the Unnao rape victim.
The Delhi High Court, recently, extended interim relief of Kuldeep Singh Senger by suspending its sentence till February 5, 2025. The bench of Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar extended interim relief observing that the doctors were not able to conduct the surgery and therefore it was postponed.
During the proceedings before Justice Vikas Mahajan, the court inquired about the date of Senger’s scheduled surgery. Advocate Thakur, representing the appellant, informed the court that the surgery was scheduled for the following day, with Senger set to surrender on February 5, 2025, in accordance with the directions issued by the Division Bench.
The court noted that, in a separate appeal, the Division Bench had previously granted the appellant a suspension of his sentence for two days, with a directive to surrender on February 5, 2025. The court also observed that if the suspension of the sentence was not extended, the appellant would be unable to avail himself of the intended relief. Therefore, it was urged that the suspension be continued for an additional two days.
In its order, the court highlighted that a similar relief had been granted to the appellant in its order dated January 22, 2025. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the surgery could not take place at that time. The appellant had complied with the court’s directive and surrendered on January 24, 2025. Considering these facts, the court granted Senger an interim suspension of his sentence and scheduled the next hearing for February 18, 2025.Background:
