Why tech solutions are not being utilized for drug purchase system at Govt Hospitals?: Allahabad HC asks State Govt

The court was informed that during an inspection of the government hospitals by the Deputy CM and Health Minister, medicines worth crores of rupees were found to be lying in the stores, which had expired.
The Allahabad High Court recently asked the State Government of Uttar Pradesh to apprise the court as to why IT solutions are not being utilised for purchase and use of medicines in different Government Hospitals in the State.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Jaspreet Singh was dealing with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) pertaining to the medical facilities available in the State Government Hospitals.
One of the issues raised before the court was that on an inspection made by the Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister, medicines worth crores of rupees were found to be lying in the store, which had expired.
Taking note of the same, the bench asked the counsel for the state to inform the bench as to why technology was not being utilized to manage the drug purchase system in the government hospital to avoid wastage.
During the hearing in the plea, the issue of spread of dengue fever in Lucknow was also raised before the court. The counsel for the petitioner alleged that apparently effective steps were not being taken to control or prevent the same.
To this, court asked the counsel for Nagar Nigam, Lucknow to apprise the court about the steps taken for control and prevention of dengue fever.
Court also directed the counsel for the State to apprise the court about the up-gradation of medical facilities, especially the availability of Plasma for dengue patients. Moreover, the court ordered that the state counsel shall also apprise the authorities to support the local administration wherever required in providing the manpower or machines or the funds for the aforesaid purpose.
