While hearing the case related to failure to vacate the premises within the time undertaken before the Madras High Court, a Supreme Court bench led by Justice Vineet Saran said

“Your requests are like Pepsi Commercial, “Yeh Dil Maange More”!! We have already given you time, you want more”.

The exchange came in light of petitioner’s advocate seeking further time (5 more months) to vacate the premises in question on conditions imposed by this court.

The case was an appeal arising out of the Madras High Court order dated November 11, 2020 wherein Sri Jai Maruthi Traders agreed before the High Court to vacate the premises and could not due to CoVID pandemic and lockdown in Tamil Nadu.

The Court thereafter while disposing of the plea directed the petitioners to vacate the premises on or before 30th September, 2021 on the condition that the petitioners shall pay to the respondents a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs towards rent/damages for the period 01.07.2021 to 30.09.2021.

Further, the Court also directed the petitioners to file usual undertaking in this Court that they will vacate the premises in question by 30.09.2021 and in case of default, the petitioners shall be liable for contempt of Court.
