Roop Singh Yadav was arrested by the CBI in November 2021. The anti-corruption unit of the CBI had registered a case in the scam in November 2017 against him and other Chief engineers.

In March 2017, the Yogi-Adityanath government constituted a committee headed by Retd Justice Alok Kumar Singh of Allahabad High Court, which stipulated a report on the financial irregularities committed.

Following this, an FIR was registered at the Gomtinagar police station. The Enforcement Directorate has also filed a criminal case against the accused persons and Roop Singh's properties have been attached.
