The Supreme Court has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit details on its success rate in case pending in the Trial Court and High Court.

A bench of Justice SK Kaul and Justice MM Sundresh noted that there has to be some accountability on the part of the agency.

The bench was hearing a plea filed by CBI challenging an order of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court where the Court had court had acquitted advocates accused of fabricating false evidences against some security personnel.

However, coming down heavily on CBI, the bench said that we want to examine the success rate of the investigation agency. If there is no case, what is the point in launching an investigation.

Earlier, the bench asked the CBI to, "file affidavit before the bench regarding steps taken and what system CBI have put in place to facilitate a proper functioning of prosecution of legal cases."
