Arjun Ram Meghwal Is The New Law Minister; Replaces Kiren Rijiju

Synopsis

Apart from the Ministry of Law and Justice, Meghwal will also get the other existing ministries of Kiren Rijiju.

On Thursday morning, in a major reshuffle in Union Cabinet, Arjun Ram Meghwal replaced Kiren Rijiju as the new Union Minister for Law & Justice.

As part of the reshuffle, Meghwal will also get Rijiju's existing ministries such as culture, and parliamentary affairs as Minister of State in addition to the Law and Justice Ministry.

Meghwal is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the year 2009, for the first time, he got elected as the Member of Parliament representing the Bhartiya Janata Party from Bikaner constituency. He was reelected in 2014 and was made BJP’s chief whip in Lok Sabha. Currently, he is the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs & Culture.

According to a press release issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu, on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reassigned portfolios among Union Council of Ministers members.

Kiren Rijiju has been assigned the portfolio of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. In July 2021, Rijiju was appointed as the Law Minister in the place of Ravi Shankar Prasad.
