70% PG admission to Tamil Nadu minority list, Supreme Court tells CMC Vellore

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Christian Medical College, Vellore to make 70% of PG admissions for 2021-22 from the Christian Minority students list of Tamil Nadu, on the basis of the NEET PG examination marks.

A bench of Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice BR Gavai noted that the remaining 30% will be filled up by the college management following the procedure of previous academic year of 2020-21.

Christian Medical College, Vellore filed a writ petition challenging a communication dated December 29, 2021 issued by the Additional Director, Admission, and for a direction to the respondents not to interfere with the admissions of CMC for 2021-22.

The communication stated that the admission for 21-22 will be on the basis of Christian minority, and as per NEET score.

Earlier, the Court had held that it was of the view that for the present academic year students shall be allotted by the state from the NEET PG merit list of students belonging to the Christian minority.

It further held that students shall be allotted to all Post Graduate seats from the merit list and counselling.

It clarified that it has not expressed any view on merits.
