Activist Suraj Kumar Bauddh seeks criminal contempt action against Aniruddhacharya ji Maharaj and Ajeet Bharti

Activist Suraj Kumar Bauddh has sought AG’s consent for criminal contempt against preacher Aniruddhacharya and YouTuber Ajeet Bharti over threats to CJI BR Gavai

In the aftermath of the shocking incident inside the Supreme Court on October 6, 2025, where an advocate allegedly attempted to attack Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, activist Suraj Kumar Bauddh has written to Attorney General R. Venkataramani seeking consent to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against religious preacher Aniruddhacharya alias Aniruddh Ram Tiwari and YouTuber Ajeet Bharti for their alleged threats and inflammatory remarks against the Chief Justice.

In his letter dated October 7, 2025, Bauddh stated that the sequence of events, ranging from public threats to an attempted physical assault, “strikes at the heart of the rule of law” and represents an attack on the “dignity and independence of the judiciary.”

Referring to a viral video dated September 21, 2025, Bauddh cited the remarks of Aniruddhacharya, who allegedly threatened the Chief Justice saying, “If you want to get your chest ripped open, then let me know.” The statement, the letter says, was made in response to certain comments attributed to the CJI about the deity Vishnu and amounted to direct incitement of violence against the highest judicial authority in the country.

The letter further mentions the October 6 incident, where Advocate Rakesh Kishore allegedly hurled a shoe at Chief Justice Gavai inside the Supreme Court and attempted to physically assault him. Bauddh called this “an unprecedented act that undermines judicial authority and endangers the sanctity of court premises.”

Following the incident, Bauddh highlighted that YouTuber Ajeet Bharti posted multiple statements on social media platform X, issuing further threats and derogatory remarks against the Chief Justice and the judiciary. One of Bharti’s posts read: “This is just the beginning. The same fate will befall such degenerate, anti-Hindu, and cowardly judges on the streets if they express their venomous desires, demeaning Hindus, beyond what is written in their orders.”

In another post, Bharti allegedly wrote that a Hindu could only “symbolically protest with a shoe,” adding that the Chief Justice “does not deserve to sit on that chair.”

Bauddh’s letter emphasized that these statements and acts were designed to “provoke violence against the Chief Justice and other judges” and have already gone viral, creating “heated debates and escalating tensions.”

He urged the Attorney General to grant written consent under Section 15 of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, read with Rule 3 of the Rules to Regulate Proceedings for Contempt of Court, 1975, to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against both individuals.

“The independence and protection of the judiciary are essential to the proper functioning of our democracy,” Bauddh wrote, requesting urgent action to “safeguard the dignity and safety of the judicial system.”
