Aware of infrastructural problems at Supreme Court, have sanctioned INR 800 crores: PM Modi

"Eveny Indian citizen deserves ease in procuring justice, and it is our responsibility that this court is accessible to every corner of the country..and for this we have sanctioned four times the funds for the third stage of the e-courts projects, than what was provided for the second stage..", the Prime Minister has said

In his inaugural address at the Supreme Court of India's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remarked that being aware of the problems being faced at the present Supreme Court's complex, the government has recently sanctioned INR 800 crores for the Supreme Court building complex.

"I just hope that a petition is not filed saying that the money is being misused..", PM added in humor.

In the last 75 years, the Supreme Court has delivered many important judgments on the issues of individual rights and freedom of speech which has given a new direction to the country's socio-political views, the Prime Minister remarked.

"The laws being made today in India will strengthen the bright future of India..as the world's dependency on India is increasing, it is necessary for our country to take advantage of every opportunity presented before us..", he added.

Referring to the three new criminal laws, the Prime Minister said, "The introduction of the three new criminal laws is a big change, and to make this transition smooth, we have started capacity building process for the government officials. I request the Supreme Court to do the same and do similar capacity building of all stakeholders."

Notably, Minister of State of Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Mehgwal also addressed the gathering at the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

CJI DY Chandrachud in his address, emphasized on efforts to be made to bring different sections of the society into the legal profession.

"We need to make more efforts to bring different sections of the society into the legal profession, for instance the representation of Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes is quite low both at the bar as well as on the bench..", said the Chief Justice of India.

As the CJI commenced his address, he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his presence at the ceremony.
