National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah has announced his intention to initiate an impeachment motion in Parliament against Justice Shekhar K. Yadav of the Allahabad High Court. The decision comes in response to recent remarks made by the judge, which Ruhullah claims were prejudiced against Muslims.
On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, Ruhullah emphasized his reliance on Article 124(4) of the Constitution, which outlines the procedure for the removal of judges.
"I am moving impeachment motion in the Parliament in accordance with Art 124(4) of the constitution for the removal of this Justice namely Shekhar K Yadav, a sitting Judge in Hon’ble High Court of Judicature at Allahabad on the charges mentioned in the notice," Ruhullah posted on X.
Ruhullah has also begun gathering signatures for his impeachment motion against Justice Shekhar K. Yadav, requiring support from 100 MPs to proceed.
He revealed that over seven parliamentarians, including AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Rajasthan MP Rajkumar Roat, Bihar MP Sudhama Prasad, and Uttar Pradesh MPs Mohibbullah and Ziau Rahman, have already signed the motion. Ruhullah expressed gratitude for their backing.
The MP also reached out to members of the Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, and Trinamool Congress, who have assured him of support following consultations with their party leadership. “I am hopeful these parties, which stand for the idea of India and its principles, will back this motion,” Ruhullah stated.
