PM Modi's speech sets the stage for a transformative legal reform. "Laws that divide our nation based on religion and foster discrimination have no place in modern society," he said

In a landmark address on the 78th Independence Day from the Red Fort in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a decisive call for the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in India. Referring to the current Civil Code as a "Communal Civil Code," the Prime Minister highlighted the need for urgent reforms.

He mentioned that the Supreme Court has repeatedly addressed the issue of the Uniform Civil Code. "Numerous orders have been issued, reflecting the belief of a significant portion of our population—and rightly so—that the current Civil Code resembles a Communal Civil Code, one that is discriminatory," he said.

PM Modi emphasized that laws dividing the nation based on religion and fostering discrimination must be replaced by a Secular Civil Code. "As we celebrate 75 years of the Constitution, we must hold extensive discussions on this subject as the Supreme Court advocates for this change. And it is our collective responsibility to realize the vision of the framers of our Constitution," he stated.

Prime Minister's Modi called for the country to unite in demanding a shift towards a Secular Civil Code, stressing that such a change would bridge the gap felt by ordinary citizens and eliminate religious discrimination.

"I assert that it is time for the country to demand a Secular Civil Code. After 75 years of a Communal Civil Code, it is crucial to move towards a Secular Civil Code. Once this shift takes place, it will eliminate religious discrimination and will bridge the gap felt by ordinary citizens," he said.
