Assam Special Court files chargesheet against six accused in Rohingyas, Bangladeshi Human Trafficking case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court, Assam, Guwahati on June 4, 2022 filed a charge sheet against six accused persons in the case pertaining to trafficking of Rohingyas/ Bangladeshis into India.

The six accused are:

  1. Kumkum Ahmed Choudhury @ K K Ahmed Chaudhury @ Asiqul Ahmed
  2. Ahiya Ahmed Choudhury
  3. Bapan Ahmed Choudhury
  4. Sahalam Laskar
  5. Jamaluddin Choudhury
  6. Wanbiang Suting

The case pertains to the trafficking of Rohingyas/ Bangladeshis into India for exploitation and to settle them in India permanently based on fake Indian documents. As per the NIA press release, the case was registered suo-moto by the NIA on December 27, 2021.

The Investigation has revealed that the accused persons were involved in organized human trafficking of Rohingyas/Bangladeshi minor girls, and women in association with other conspirators based in different parts of India and Bangladesh.

The accused persons had arranged for transportation, accommodation, procurement of fake documents, etc. for the trafficked Rohingya victims, states the press release.
