Synopsis

As per Singh, CBI is misleading the Supreme Court as it had earlier told the court that its investigation into the Delhi excise policy case was complete and a final chargesheet would be filed soon but perhaps it did not know that it would have to arrest Kejriwal on the directions of the Centre

Aam Aadmi Party's Sanjay Singh recently said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been misleading the Supreme Court of India.

CBI arrested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for the sole reason of keeping political opponents in jail, Singh added while claiming the ED and CBI to be weapons of the Central government.

“When a trial court granted the Chief Minister bail, the ED immediately sought the High Court’s intervention and secured a stay on the bail. When he seemed set to receive bail from the Supreme Court, the Centre had him arrested by the CBI,” the AAP leader has further alleged.

Kejriwal was recently arrested by the CBI, after the High Court had overturned the decision of the vacation bench of the Rouse Avenue Court that granted bail to the Chief Minister in the ED case.

Rouse Avenue Court has now also permitted the Central Bureau of Investigation to interrogate Kejriwal concerning the now defunct liquor excise policy.

The Delhi CM was arrested on March 21st this year. He obtained bail from the Supreme Court for his election campaign but failed to extend this relief in subsequent appeals. Finally, the trial court granted him regular bail on June 20.

Notably, Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to Kejriwal, criticizing the ED for bias and failure to directly link him to proceeds of crime in the excise policy case.

The case against Kejriwal & allies involves allegations of corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of Delhi's excise policy for 2021-22, which was later scrapped.
