CJI Surya Kant Reshapes AI Committee, Puts Justice P S Narasimha at the Helm

SC reconstituted its Artificial Intelligence Committee under Justice P S Narasimha to guide AI adoption in the judiciary
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Wednesday reconstituted the Supreme Court’s Artificial Intelligence Committee, tasking it with steering the judiciary’s next phase of AI adoption and technological reform.
According to an official statement, the revamped committee will be chaired by Justice P S Narasimha. Its members include Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V of the Kerala High Court, Justice Anoop Chitkara of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Justice Suraj Govindaraj of the Karnataka High Court.
The Court said the panel will continue to guide and supervise all initiatives related to the adoption, development and deployment of AI tools in the Supreme Court and the subordinate judiciary. The mandate is aimed at improving efficiency, accessibility and transparency in the justice delivery system.
Registrar (Technology) Anupam Patra will serve as member-secretary and convener of the committee. Ashish J Shiradhonkar, member (systems) of the Supreme Court’s e-Committee, has been appointed as a special invitee.
The statement said, "The reconstituted AI Committee will continue to guide and oversee initiatives relating to the adoption, development and deployment of artificial intelligence tools and systems in the Supreme Court of India and the subordinate judiciary, with a view to enhancing efficiency, accessibility and transparency in the justice delivery system."
