The CBSE in its additional affidavit filed today before the Supreme Court has informed that the results for class XIIth board exams would be declared by July 31, 2021.
CBSE in its affidavit has said that, “The Policy for Tabulation of marks for Class XII Board Examination 2021 has been formulated by the CBSE to ensure standardisation of marks, as marks of Class XI and XII component will be awarded at school level and, therefore, they will strictly not be comparable across schools due to variations in the quality of question papers, the evaluation standard and processes, the mode of conduct of exams etc. Therefore, to ensure standardisation, each school will have to internally moderate the marks to account for the school level variations by using a reliable reference standard as provided in para 10 of the Policy. This is necessary in the interest of fairness and to ensure that the marks allocated are comparable and there is no adverse impact or undue gain for any student because of the methodology/process of evaluation used by the individual school.”
The said affidavit has been filed by the CBSE to comply with the directions issued by the Supreme Court with regards to incorporating a criteria for dispute resolution in case of students applying for correction and for specifying a timeline for declaration of results and the date before which optional exams would be conducted subject to conducive situation and logistical constraints.
With regards to the dispute resolution mechanism, CBSE has amended its policy by inserting paragraph 32 as per which CBSE would provide an online facility for registration for the examination if the candidates are not satisfied with their result.
“Examination will be conducted by the board only in the main subjects as and when conditions are conducive for holding the examinations. However, the marks obtained by a candidate in this examination will be treated as final for those who opt to take this examination.", the affidavit further states in this regard.
In relation to the date before which optional exams would be conducted, CBSE has said that the said examination would be conducted anytime between August 15, 2021 and September 15, 2021 subject to conducive situation.
On the aspect of exams for Private/Patrachar/2nd Chance compartment candidates, CBSE in its affidavit have said that the exams for these candidates would be conducted in a manner so that they fall within the Assessment Policy for the Academic Year 2019-2020 as approved by the top court in Amit Bathla & Ors v. CBSE & Anr and after conducting their exams anytime between August 15 to September 15, 2021 that their results would be declared in accordance with the Assessment Policy.
The Court would now continue hearing the matter tomorrow i.e. on June 22, 2021 at 2:00 PM wherein it would hear the pleas challenging the well defined objective criteria formulated by the CBSE and ICSE to assess students of Class XIIth.
