The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi, on Wednesday, allowed an accused in a murder case, to appear for entrance test for admission to the National Law University, Delhi (NLU-D).

The Court was hearing a plea filed by a murder accused, to appear in AILET examination, 2022, to pursue BA. LL.B (Hons.) program at NLU Delhi. It is to be noted that the application had been accepted by the CBI and an ‘Admit Card’ was also issued.

The Judge while allowing the accused to write the exam observed that right to education is a fundamental right.

Court took note of earlier records which showed that the accused had made a similar request in 2020. Taking into consideration the above mentioned factors, the judge granted permission to the accused, to appear in the entrance exam to be held on June 26, 2022.

Accordingly, the Superintendent at Dasana Jail, has been directed to make necessary arrangements to ensure that the accused appears in the examination and thereafter is taken back to the concerned jail.

Court has further directed the Superintendent to allow the accused to carry necessary documents/articles as mentioned in “Instructions to candidates” on admit card.

The jail superintendent has been directed to file a report of compliance in this regard.
