Court was told today that it need not trouble itself with these seven cases

The BJP led Delhi government has moved Supreme Court of India to withdraw seven cases filed during the previous AAP regime challenging the authority of the Lieutenant Governor in several government bodies.

Appearing for Delhi government, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati told the court today that the application seeks withdrawal of seven cases pending before the top court.

"These matters should not trouble this court anymore", ASG Bhati said.

Accordingly, the bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh has directed to list the application filed by the BJP-led Delhi government for Friday.

In one of these 7 cases, the Supreme Court had stayed the direction of the Nation Green Tribunal (NGT) appointing the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi as the Chairman of the High-level Committee constituted for rejuvenation of river Yamuna.

AAP led Delhi Government had filed the instant appeal under Section 22 of the NGT Act, arguing that the said appointment of LG is violative of the constitution.

It contended that the LG is only a "figurehead" except for three subjects -- police, public order and land -- and thus the NGT's order should be set aside.
