[Delhi Pollution] “17 flying squads have been constituted”: Commission for Air Quality Management tells Supreme Court

Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR has in its affidavit filed before the Supreme Court stated that 17 flying squads have been constituted in compliance to order dated 2nd December. The affidavit further states that these flying squads will directly report to the ‘Enforcement Task Force’, which has the power to take punitive actions and preventive measures.

According to the affidavit, the number of flying squads will increase to 40 in the next 24 hours and that they have already conducted surprise checks at 25 sites.

The Affidavit states another direction was issued to the industries which states that where Industrial operations and processes in NCR which are not running in PNG or cleaner fuels shall be allowed to function for 8 hours a day for 5 days a week. They will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday. The affidavit further states that only 5 thermal plants have been permitted to function within 300 Kms of the NCR and that the other 11 have been directed to remain closed till at least 15th of December.

According to the affidavit schools at NCR will remain closed till further orders and online mode of teaching is encouraged except for examination and lab practicals. The affidavit further states that entry of trucks into NCR has been restricted only to those carrying essential commodities.

The case concerning air pollution in Delhi which has been filed by a 17 year old college student is currently being heard.
