In a significant diplomatic development, Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) initiated a call to his Indian counterpart at 15:35 hours today, during which both sides agreed to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea effective from 1700 hours IST.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the development, stating that instructions have been issued to armed forces on both sides to enforce the understanding immediately. The two DGMOs are scheduled to hold another round of talks on May 12 at 1200 hours IST.

The move is being viewed as a step toward de-escalation and the restoration of peace along the Line of Control and other sensitive regions.

"Pakistan's DGMO called Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, in the air & sea with effect from 1700 hours IST. Instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. They will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours," said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in a press address.

In the wake of the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam that left over 26 civilians dead, India initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025 - a swift and calculated military response aimed squarely at dismantling terror infrastructure across the Line of Control.

The operation, which targeted specific training camps and launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, was carefully calibrated to strike only militant strongholds, avoiding civilian harm.
