Synopsis

The 17-year-old girl had allegedly committed suicide last Wednesday over alleged mistreatment by school authorities.

The Madras High Court on Tuesday permitted the re-postmortem of the body of the girl, who committed suicide in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu, even without her parent's cooperation, the Times of India reported.

The state public prosecutor made an urgent mention before the bench of Justice N Sathish Kumar that the parents of the deceased girl could not be located and the doctors' team appointed by the court were waiting to commence the procedure.

Court was further informed that the Top Court has already turned down a mention made by the father of the girl to stay the re-postmortem.

In view of the same, Court permitted the authorities to go ahead without waiting for the parents.

On Monday, July 18, the high court allowed the re-postmortem of the body of the girl to be conducted by a group of three doctors and a retired forensic expert appointed by the court. While allowing the petitioner's counsel to be present at the autopsy, Court rejected their plea for a doctor of their choice to be included in the team.

Court said, "This Court has selected the Doctors after the thorough verification and included them as the team of Doctors."

However, the father of the girl moved Supreme Court seeking stay on the re-postmortem and a direction to allow them to include a doctor of their choice in the team. The Top Court also turned down their plea.

The 17-year-old girl had allegedly committed suicide last Wednesday over alleged mistreatment by school authorities.
