The Chief Justice of India Justice NV Ramana today emphasised on the need for simplifying legalese for the benefit of general public.

 “The parties must understand developments in their case, the language of the court should not be like Mantras in a wedding which most of us don’t understand,” he said.

The other dignitaries of the event included M.K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Justices Ramasubramanian and MM Sundaresh judges of Supreme Court and Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari, Chief Justice of Madras High Court.

The CJI further stressed on the adoption of local languages for court proceedings, adding that though there has been ample debate in the space, it hasn’t come to fruition. 
“I am sure, with innovation in science and technology, and advancements such as artificial intelligence, the issues associated with introduction of local languages in High Courts may be solved in the near future.”

CJI said that he is a strong proponent of Indianisation or the Judicial system and that means it should be moulded for the benefit of the Indian populace.

While insisting on the fact that Infrastructural development forms one of the core aspects, he said that the litigations continue to rise but infrastructure currently does not meet the rising demands for efficient delivery of justice.  “But there is a severe gap between the existing infrastructure and the projected justice needs of the people,” CJI said. 

Informing that the Supreme Court has continued with online hearing for miscellaneous days which was started during the pandemic. He further said that counsels can appear online on Non-Miscellaneous days by seeking prior permission of the court. He said

“This is to enable advocates from all over the country to continue their practice before the Supreme Court. I hope this practise continues and is further strengthened in the future.”
