NIA court convicts and sentences five accused in 2014 Bijnor blast case

The case pertains to an explosion that had taken place in the house of Leelo Devi at Jatan Mohalla, Bijnor on September 12, 2014, and the criminal conspiracy hatched by members of banned organizations SIMI to commit terrorist acts.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court in Lucknow on Thursday last week i.e. June 30, 2022, convicted and sentenced five accused in the 2014 Bijnor IED(improvised explosive devices) blast case.
The accused persons are namely:
- Husna
- Abdulla
- Raees Ahmad
- Nadeem
- Furkan
The case pertains to an explosion that had taken place in the house of Leelo Devi at Jatan Mohalla, Bijnor on September 12, 2014, and the criminal conspiracy hatched by members of banned organizations SIMI to commit terrorist acts.
The accused have been sentenced to 3 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a fine under Section 201 read with Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code, along with 7 years with a fine under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
They have also been sentenced to 7 years, 10 months a RI with a fine under Section 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and seven years RI with a fine separately under Section 21 of UA (P) Act.
The court also convicted them of a five-year RI with a fine under Sections 39 of the UA (P) Act and seven years RI with a fine under Section 5 of the Explosive Substances Act.
As per the NIA press release, the case was initially registered by Bijnor Police which had registered several FIRs, and then re-registered by NIA on April 30, 2015, and November 12, 2015.
After the case investigation, a charge sheet was filed against the five above-mentioned accused persons on February 3, 2018. The accused persons had pleaded guilty before the NIA Court and accordingly convicted, the NIA press release states.
